Our Stories

I started taking photographs to remember people and places — and pretty quickly realized this was it, this was what I wanted to do. It felt like the perfect mix of technical and creative (coming from a math background, I can barely draw a stick figure, so this was my way in). There's a love of seeing, of discovery and curiosity, in it — a chance to tell stories of people and places, and preserve memories and spaces and time for people.

Bill Lutz designs officially started back in 2015. My inspiration was to sell my artwork and to build a clientele that would appreciate both illustration cartooning and graphic design and to promote myself and my business.

I started my business slowly over 20 years ago while I was still assisting other photographers and as I was honing my digital retouching skills. My background is in fine art photography and I decided to apply that creativity to the commercial realm.

I started my business right in photography school! We had to make our own business cards, and html website. The inspiration is always evolving, but the core of it is capturing people.

After attending Syracuse University and working as an Inside Sales Representative for the Oklahoma City Thunder, I moved back home to Vermont and became the Marketing and Promotions Manager for the Vermont Lake Monsters. I had dabbled in graphic design before, but wanted to improve my skills for this new role. I spent hours and hours of my free time watching Photoshop tutorials on YouTube and recreating Celtics and Red Sox graphics.
